Introduction
Independent Portal (we, us, our, the site, the system) is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (the Act, the Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) described therein. APPs set out the way in which organisations may collect, store, use and disclose personal information and how a person can access and/or correct records containing their personal information.
Collection of personal information
Most information collected and stored within the Independent Portal system relates to businesses rather than individuals. However, a small amount of personal information is collected and used within the system.
We take the approach of only collecting and storing the minimum amount of personal information to enable the practical and efficient operation of the Independent Portal site.
Use of personal information
Personal information is used for:
- regulating access to the system (i.e. as login credentials)
- identification of individuals within the context of business information (e.g. identifying the individual who lodged an order for stock on behalf of a business)
- facilitating communication between business entities within the system via authorised individuals (e.g. sending business notifications to relevant individuals)
Such personal information is not used for any purpose other than that which is deemed necessary for the practical and efficient operation of the service. Additionally the site may collect:
- IP addresses
- information about browser types
- information about operating system types
- date and time of access to the site
- pages visited within the site
This information is collected primarily for security purposes, but may also be used in aggregate for analytical purposes.
Providing us with your personal information
During the registration process, you will be asked to provide:
- an email address
- your name
- the business(es) you are representing in the context of using the site
- a contact phone number (optional in most cases)
If you do not wish to provide us with this information, or do not give us consent to use such information as described in this policy document, we recommend you expressly state your concerns when contacting us, and we will advise you on your options relating to usage of the system.
Accessing your personal information
To request access to your personal information, please email us at enquiries@independentportal.com.au. When making such a request, please provide sufficient details to facilitate our identification and verification of records that contain your personal information.
We will take reasonable endeavours to provide you access to your personal information in accordance with relevant legislation and regulation.
Making a complaint
If you believe Independent Portal has breached the APPs you may lodge a complaint with us at enquiries@independentportal.com.au and we will respond as soon as practicable.
